About the role and our team
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fisheries Officer within the Sea Fisheries Enforcement Team.
As part of your role, you will be working on both land and at sea on the Fishery protection vessel Barrule, ensuring compliance with sea fisheries legislation and carrying out sampling work on behalf of the Government laboratory.
Working as part of a small team, your main responsibilities will include:
Participating as a warranted officer aboard the fisheries patrol vessel
Undertaking shore-based enforcement of sea and freshwater fisheries legislation
Collaborating with and providing support to the Inland Fisheries team and Government Lab scientists to facilitate fisheries sampling and survey duties
The Fisheries Directorate is responsible for the management and protection of fisheries and their supporting ecosystems within the Isle of Man and the territorial sea. Working with stakeholders, the Directorate aims to develop innovative and dynamic fisheries management measures that seek to balance the economic, environmental and social needs of the Isle of Man.
RYA-recognised training for small boat handling is offered if not already attained. Comprehensive on the job training and classroom-based fisheries enforcement training is also provided.

Additional information
The role requires out of hours and weekend working, for which an allowance is paid. You should be capable of passing the seafarers medical.
A full valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle is required for this role.
Work wear will be provided. Free parking is also available.
A relocation package and interview expenses are not available for this role.
