Mental Health Practitioner This exciting role is for experienced mental health practitioners to work as an integral part of 3 primary health care teams, which together form the Banbury Alliance PCN in North Oxfordshire. This role will be partly 'first contact' (patients booked directly by reception) and partly referrals from GPs within those practices. It will involve liaison with practice clinicians, as well as liaison with secondary care, social work and voluntary sector staff, where appropriate. The Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner will be responsible for the assessment, structured intervention and signposting of a cohort of patients. The work will initially involve remote working (telephone and video consultations) but there will be the opportunity to see selected patients face to face, where clinical considerations suggest that is less of a risk than having a poor consultation because of technology or patient factors. This will be a small minority of cases. With time, of course, we all hope to return to more “normal” working. Key Responsibilities You will be responsible for: Working as a self-directed autonomous practitioner Effectively managing a defined caseload Identifying potential risk factors and supporting the individual in safety planning Being able to provide appropriate assessment and structured intervention to vulnerable adults Referring and signposting patients to services / agencies as appropriate Having knowledge of local Safeguarding processes and being able to recognise and refer potential concerns to the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub Submitting reports and attending multi-disciplinary case conferences, where necessary Having a working knowledge of treatment options available within Primary Care and an intention to promote existing services to patients reluctant to use them (e.g. Talking Space Plus) Having an appreciation of the medication side effects and psychologically based interventions such as relapse prevention, cognitive based strategies and brief solution focussed therapies Qualifications and Experience To be considered for the position of Mental Health Practitioner, you must be either a Registered Nurse (RMN), a Mental Health Occupational Therapist or qualified Social Worker with experience in adult Mental Health. It is also essential that you have training in Safeguarding Adults and Children (L2) and have experience of developing, implementing and evaluating care plans with other members of multi-disciplinary teams.
